Aaron Barbour, PhD, Assistant Professor
Department of Neuroscience & Anatomy
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine

Aaron received his PhD in Neuroscience from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2020. From 2020-2025, he trained as a postdoctoral fellow and Instructor at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where he identified a critical role of neuronal hyperexcitability and seizures in the pathological progression of Alzheimer's disease. Aaron began as an Assistant Professor at VCU in 2025. As principal investigator, his lab focuses on the role of neuronal hyperexcitability in memory dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease to identify translationally relevant treatment strategies to restore memory function in the prodromal disease stages.

Jakob Green, PhD, Research Scientist

As a medicinal chemist and neuroscientist, my work has largely focused on two major aspects of neurodegenerative, aging, and injury models, neuroinflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction. The interactions between the brain and immune system, both resident and infiltrating immune cells, contribute significantly to disease progression and understanding these processes are crucial to developing therapies.
